Item 2 - Cornish rock

The Memory: This is my second item. The item represents a memory from my present (well, a more recent past) from this summer. The object is a rock off of the local beach near out cottage that we were staying at in Cornwall - family holiday. The beach was hidden down a really steep set of stairs carved into the side of the cliff edge. On the beach we discovered that the rocks contained crystals so we carried about ten each in our bags back up the steep cliff!!!

Below is the drawing I created from this object. I decided to use the rock to represent the cliff and the trek wee had to take to get down to the beach. I found drawing the rock quite challenging because it was hard to display the texture - however I am pleased with the outcome because you can see that the shading gives the object more depth. This picture reminds me of the artist Slinkachu (uses small figures on everyday objects.) If I was to redo this picture I would have liked to add more colour to really generate the landscape from Cornwall.
I think that this image works very well with the concept of memories. I dew the local beach from my memory. This could be a good starting point for a idea. I was able to recall this beach very well since I visited it this summer however f I was to draw another memory that had taken place years earlier this would be a lot harder to do.

  1. i like how you extended your drawing to show the memory behind the object rather than just drawing the rock. its good you also mentioned the challenges you faced with the texture, using another medium like charcoal or pencil could have helped with creating texture. also, before reading about about your image, i also thought of Slinkachu because of your small figures :)
