Final Piece (end of week one)

Above is my final piece for the first week of my research for the 'memories' exploratory stage. The image above is my work in progress at the moment as some of the areas need to be completed however I feel you can get a good idea of my timeline from this photograph.  When designing my concept I wanted to created a fluid shape that would direct the view around the page chronologically but without having a conventional shape. I like the layout I created in the end because it is visually interesting and has just as much character as the information inside (if not more.) The shape I created reminds me of organs inside the human body - which vaguely reminds me of the brain and memory.

Week 1 (Research week review)

Research week

The research week was an introduction to the way I will be working through this exploration period – therefore at first it was a little different and meant I had to adjust to the amount of work we would be expected to do for each week however soon I was able to get into the routine of things. This research week helped me to look into a subject and learn how to research it through different materials such as found objects my memories, exhibitions at museums, sculptures, film, online and through my own designing. The whole week was a mixture of research and gathering ideas for a potential outcome for the timeline at the end of the week. On the Monday we had to create several drawings but connect them with our memories. I found this very challenging, some of the objects I had lots of ideas for but the work never came out how I imagined. There were also some objects I really didn’t know how to connect at all. In the end I was able to develop several drawings some I didn’t like but were used as development and let me understand what I didn’t like and how I would choose to make them better. The other ‘task’ we were asked to do was to create a timeline of the research week – this could be as creative as we liked (some people created 3D models and used collage and illustration) for my own timeline I created a piece which was fluid and connected. I got back a lot of positive feedback by my peers because they liked the drawings and shape of my creation - one girl suggested that I should add colour to brighten up the image although I agree -  feel that the colour may overpower the simple design. I really like researching into memories and the exhibitions we saw as it opened by eyes way memories work. It gave me an insight and allowed me to understand research and the ways of getting it. I feel that my work was a success as it looked well on the topic memory and expressed a clear theme.
